Royal Palace Phnom Penh Dress Code 2026

The Royal Palace is an active royal and religious site, and the dress rule is enforced at the gate. Cover shoulders and knees or you may be refused entry.

What is required

Shoulders and knees must be fully covered. Wear a T-shirt or shirt with sleeves and long trousers or a long skirt. A scarf over bare shoulders is often not accepted, so dress properly before you arrive.

What is not allowed

Sleeveless tops, shorts, short skirts, ripped jeans, crop tops and see-through fabrics are turned away. Comfortable closed shoes are best for the stone and gravel paths.

If you arrive underdressed

Vendors near the entrance sometimes sell or lend sarongs and long wraps. Buy or borrow one to cover up, then keep it for the rest of your visit.

Dress code FAQ

Can I wear a scarf instead of sleeves?

Often no. Staff usually require actual sleeves and a hem below the knee; a loose scarf is not a reliable substitute.

Are shoes checked?

Footwear is not restricted, but remove shoes and hats before entering temple buildings such as the Silver Pagoda.

Does the dress code apply to children?

Yes, the same shoulders-and-knees rule applies to all visitors, including children.
